AirAsia: You Get What You Pay ForFriday June 20, 2008

You get what you pay. This should be put in your mind when you decide which airline you would like to choose for your travel. My last travel to my hometown, I fly low cost airline, AirAsia
. Let me share my experiences flying with this airline. To those who have flown or fly frequently with this airline, this may not be surprising. Hence, you can skip the rest of this article.

Yesterday was the second time I used AirAsia. The first time I flew AirAsia was when I went for KL for business purpose. I was wondering why my boarding pass didn't have seat number on it. Guess what. The term airbus really applies to this airline. You must cram into the queue of people lining to get on board and find any seat you like. If you want to be prioritized, you have to pay more. But, this idea makes me wonder; if everybody is willing to pay more to be prioritzed, who would be the first to get on board? Heck, if I have to pay more, I'd rather choose another airline.

Luckily, in my first experience flying AirAsia, I got a dinner package in the boarding lounge. It's not a fancy one, but it was okay. At least it had rice and chicken.

The second time I flew AirAsia, which was yesterday and on Saturday, was quite horrible. I was scheduled to leave for my hometown at 1745hrs. On the way to the airport -I left home at about 1000hrs in the morning- at about 1330hrs, I received a text message saying that my flight has been re-scheduled until 3 hours! Darn. Now, we have so much spare time at the airport. I only wish the airport had video game console or something. Then, that night I left for my hometown at about 8 at night.

Then, on Wednesday, when it was time to go back to Jakarta, I flew the same airline because I already booked a return ticket. I was scheduled to fly at 1845hrs. You know what happened? I eventually flew at 2030hrs! There was no snack, no dinner provided and best of all, no notification sent to my mobile. So, there I was sitting at the airport looking at the people walking back and fro. Too bad I didn't get to see many beautiful and sexy stewardesses or flight attendants. I like red. Maybe that's why I like looking at lady flight attendants of AirAsia in red. Or maybe it's becaues of their short skirt? I don't know. All I know was I was quite bored back at the airport.

So, I come to the conclusion: you get what you pay. The good thing about AirAsia is you won't loose your seat like any other airlines. AirAsia does not have business class and first class. Usually, you would loose your seat for VIPs. I have heard stories like this. Welp, I can assure you VIPs will NOT fly AirAsia with this kind of management.

AirAsia is also cheap, besides stripping down lux class, because it also strips down onboard meal. If you fly normal airlines, you'd get brunch, lunch or dinner. With AirAsia, you won't get any. If you decide you want to have onboard meal, you must pay. Don't worry, although the price of the meal is above avarage price of the food on the ground, it's still reasonable.

Another factor why AirAsia is cheap is because it doesn't offer free baggage for its passangers. If you book online, you will pay cheaper than when you pay 24 hours before the departure. So, if you travel only for a while, make sure you only carry one baggage only and bring it on board. Just make sure there's no sharp object or any liquid form in abundant volume in it.

Welp, I guess I can't complain too much about AirAsia. Sure, it's cheap. But, you have to cope with its frequent delay, absence of onboard meal, absence of free baggage. Remember, you won't loose your seat for VIPs. And because AirAsia is cheap airlines, rest assured that the lady flight attendants are young and energic. They may move to work in another airline some day. So, enjoy looking at them in red while they're still there. Go for cheap? Go for AirAsia.
